“Produce 101 Season 2” has been the talk of the town for these past 11 weeks. From its first broadcast on April 7, it had a strong hold on viewership ratings and quickly became the most popular show among young generations.
Here are some of the achievements made by “Produce 101 Season 2” during these past three months.
1. Sharp rise in viewer ratings
“Produce 101 Season 2” started off with an average of 1.6 percent and a high of 2.1 percent ratings, which is a good start for a cable program. On episode five, the show surpassed an average of 3 percent, and it broke all previous records from both seasons of the show on the last episode, gathering an average of 5.2 percent and reaching a high of 5.7 percent. For nine consecutive weeks, it took first place in its time-slot for viewers between ages 15 and 34.
2. No. 1 in buzz factor
“Produce 101 Season 2” topped the Content Power Index (CPI) rankings for 10 consecutive weeks starting from its first episode. Official videos of the show and its trainees were released through Naver TV, GOM TV, Kakao TV, YouTube, and other platforms, gathering 490 million views in total. Considering that the last season’s videos had 180 million cumulative views, the views for this season are extremely high. The focus camera videos of the trainees’ performances were especially popular.
3. Music chart all-kill and concert ticket sellout
The show’s concept evaluation and debut mission songs took over music charts the moment they were released. “Never” performed exceptionally well on charts, grabbing an all-kill. Other concept evaluation tracks, “Open Up,” “Oh Little Girl,” “I Know You Know,” and “Show Time,” are also still ranked high in charts, and the newly revealed debut mission songs, “Hands on Me,” “Super Hot,” and “Always,” also rose to high ranks.
The “‘Produce 101 Season 2’ Finale Concert'” will take place on July 1 and 2, and its tickets sold out the minute they were released in late-May.
4. Paving the road to success for trainees
Some of the trainees on “Produce 101 Season 2” had been practicing for a few months, and others for over five years, but one thing they had in common was that they all wanted to debut. They improved tremendously during the 11 weeks, and at the end, they all said in unison that “Produce 101 Season 2” was a show that helped them take a step closer to their dreams.
