“Produce 101 Season 2” contestant and soon-to-be solo artist Samuel Kim has responded to his fans’ disappointment following the show’s finale and assured them he’s doing fine.

When Samuel Kim did not make it into the top 11 of “Produce 101 Season 2” during the finale on June 16 and therefore did not secure a spot in the temporary boy group Wanna One, many fans were disappointed and at least one petition was started calling for him (and other contestants who did not qualify) to be included in the group.

In a recent interview, Samuel Kim said he’s heard the news about the fan petition. “I feel how sincerely sad fans are, and I’m surprised and grateful,” he said. “Whenever I receive that kind of news or letters of support, it gives me a lot of strength. This isn’t the end, it’s only the start, so please keep watching me.”

Samuel Kim also said, “My mother seemed teary when my name wasn’t called in the studio during the live broadcast, but when we went home and talked, she was composed. She told me that if I work hard, I’ll have good results again. I’m alright too. I don’t have any regrets.”

While talking about his time on the show, Samuel Kim was asked about which trainees he felt that he got along best with, and chose Park Ji Hoon, Kang Daniel, and Ong Sung Woo.

“I created the choreography together with Kang Daniel when we were doing ‘Get Ugly,’ and our music tastes were the same,” said Samuel Kim. “Ong Sung Woo would freestyle dance with me or joke around when we were bored, so we had fun together. Park Ji Hoon and I got along well when we were practicing ‘Boy in Luv.'”

When asked which contestants he was the saddest to see eliminated, Samuel Kim named Woo Jin Young and Im Young Min. “Woo Jin Young really showed his talents during the ‘Not the Same Person You Used to Know’ performance, so it’s a shame,” said Samuel Kim. “Im Young Min also gave a stable performance for ‘Open Up,’ but he wasn’t able to make it into the debut team so it’s too bad.”

Samuel Kim will soon be making a solo debut, with his first mini album, featuring the title track “Sixteen,” to be released in August.
