“Produce 101 Season 2” contestant Jang Moon Bok recently shared some insights into his musical inspirations as well as his friendship with BTS member V.

In an interview that took place on June 19, Jang Moon Bok said, “I first became interested in music because of rap, but I also thought about performing as an idol. I really liked BIGBANG and Highlight. I fostered my dream while listening to their music.”

Jang Moon Bok attended high school with V of BTS, and the pair became friends in their teens while both dreaming of being singers.

“When I did the initial evaluations for ‘Produce 101 Season 2,’ I performed a cover of BTS’s ‘Boy in Luv,’” said Jang Moon Bok. “I think V saw that. Also, when I came in second place at first, V sent me a message to congratulate me.”

“I saw from up close how hard V worked in order to become a singer ever since the time he was preparing for auditions,” he went on to say. “I’m happy he’s done well.”

Jang Moon Bok added, “Although we can’t see each other often because of our different schedules, he’s still a cool friend who motivates me.”

Jang Moon Bok appeared on the competition show “Superstar K” in 2010, where he became known for his rapping and catchphrases. In April of 2016, fans came to know about his friendship with V when V trolled fans via Twitter by first posting a shot of himself with Jang Moon Bok that only showed the back of his friend’s head (and therefore just his long hair). “It’s good to see you for the first time in five years,” he wrote.

Shortly after, he tweeted another photo that revealed Jang Moon Bok’s face, with the caption, “Isn’t that right, Moon Bok.”

Although Jang Moon Bok was a popular contestant prior on “Produce 101 Season 2” and began the show in the No. 2 spot, he did not make it into the final 11 who will be making their debut as Wanna One this summer.

However, he recently talked about his experiences on the show and said he would make the decision to go on it again, and showed off his skills when he danced to “Pick Me” at double speed.
